2007 BIG DREAMS 5K
Even with the heavy rain and high humidity, the weather didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the 74 runners and walkers that made it to the starting line. At about 18 minutes later, the first runners started trailing in. By noon, all of the runners and walkers had crossed the finish line as the sun peaked through the clouds, creating an atmosphere similar to that of a tropical jungle. I watched as the first two runners, Justin Faught of Mason City (overall male winner) and Mike Larsen of Clear Lake, clear the corner and run down a steep incline towards Armour Pugh Park. Justin crossed the line at 18:14 with Mike, a mere 4 seconds later, right behind him at 18:18. A quick 2 minutes later, I saw Kalyn Kruckenberg of Mason City (overall female winner), finish at 20:38. It was incredible to watch all of the athletes compete in our first annual Run for Big Dreams.
